Our Strange Valentine's Day

Sunday, February 15, 2015

We have started our hand in DIY projects, and I have to say, I love them. My mom has always said how she loves handyman work. I thought she was nuts...but it's actually super addicting.

I don't know how you spent your valentine's day. Maybe a girls movie night. Maybe dinner with your significant other.

Here is how I spent mine:
  1. Garrett bought donuts and flowers from the grocery and we hosted his brother's family for a few short hours in the morning. They are wonderful.
  2. We got ready. Not too dressed up but maybe just a little more than normal. Went to the coffee shop.
  3. Then we went to Lowe's.
  4. One closet organizer, two new plants, a can of white paint, ten dresser knobs, and a can of stain.
    1. Side note: Ask my family. This is a dream date. Closet organizers are the way to my heart.
Now proceeds the before and after pictures of our projects. There is another project still in the works that will be on the blog later this week!

It's Time to Rearrange

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Garrett and I had the day off today. It was the first time in a while we have had space to talk about what was inspiring us lately; or in my case, figuring out why I had a lack of inspiration. This conversation naturally sparked by my earlier pinterest hair braiding fail. It's fine...I can't do a braid crown. I've accepted it.

Anyways, we are sitting on our couch talking about this blog. Questions like: Why am I even doing this blog? What are some new ideas I can incorporate in? Is my capsule wardrobe worth blogging about or was it just something for me?

Here is what we got. I follow many blogs. I love blogs. It allows me to look into someones life and grab bits of knowledge from them. I get to see all their cute outfits and all the j crew they put on their baby. It's great. But what am I really wanting people to get from MY blog?

This is when Garrett in all his wisdom says; "I think that people look at other peoples blogs to escape their reality. (guilty.) I think you should blog to allow people to reconnect with their reality."
I mean, he's genius.

I don't want to sit here and feed you guys all this crap about how my life is an endless bliss of exposed brick walls. There is a lot that happens inside of these walls. Most of it is great, but sometimes this space is filled with the sound of hard conversations. Other times it's filled with a lack of conversation because of bitterness or misunderstanding.

"She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn't supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something"
Quote I found online from a book I've never read.
I don't want this blog to just be something nice. Something pretty. Something that makes you want more things. I want my words to make you feel something worth thinking about. My hope is to create SPACE for you to say...hey that's me to...and that's okay.

All this to say, today was my day of rearranging. Not redoing. Redoing would mean that it was bad to begin with. Both my apartment and my blog were not wrong or bad. However, they were lacking something fresh. Today, I gave myself space to create. A new space to write, a new space to listen, a new space to express where I am now.

Change is good. Rearranging is good. Reevaluating is good.
